Project History
Historical Context
Máximo Gómez Báez (1836-1905), the “Generalissimo,” was a central figure in Cuba’s wars of independence. A Dominican military leader who dedicated his life to the Cuban cause, his legacy demanded a portrait that would capture both his determination and nobility of spirit.
The Artistic Challenge
The bust of a historical hero must balance documentary fidelity with artistic interpretation. Every wrinkle, every fold of the uniform, every detail of expression must convey decades of struggle and sacrifice, while preserving the humanity of the subject.
Casting Process (S3)
The initial modeling (S1) captured the Generalissimo’s distinctive features with documentary precision. Lost-wax casting preserved every texture of the original modeling, from the hair to the military uniform buttons, culminating in a patina (S4) that enhances the depth of expression.
Legacy and Impact
This bust represents RunArt Foundry’s capability to create portraits that transcend mere physical representation, capturing the spirit of historical figures for future generations.
